Exfoliating and rosacea?

I've been told repeatedly by people and my dermatologist that people with rosacea shouldn't efoliate, but I also know that exfoliating is essential because it clears away dead skin and cells. I used to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week before my rosacea, but now I only do it once a week and when I do my rosacea gets really irritated so I know it's bad for it. So how should someone with rosacea exfoliate?Exfoliating and rosacea?
I have eczema, which causes me to have a lot of dead skin cell buildup on my face. So I have to exfoliate, even if it does irritate my skin slightly. There's a little bit of redness intially, but it wears off after a short while.

If you're going to exfoliate, you should do it as gently as possible. Maybe use a soft baby wash cloth or just your fingers, rather than an abrasive scrub.

My method - In the morning after I wash my face, I put on lotion or sunblock while my face is still wet. A few hours before bed I exfoliate with just warm water and my regular liquid cleanser. The lotion applied earlier in the day seems to breakup the dead skin cells and makes them easier to remove.
