Rosacea (acne rosacea) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by facial flushing, telangiectasias, erythema, papules, pustules, and in severe cases, rhinophyma. Diagnosis is based on characteristic appearance. Treatment depends on severity and includes topical metronidazole, topical and oral antibiotics, rarely isotretinoin, and, for severe rhinophyma, surgery.Help! What can I do against the redness and itch of my ACNE ROSACEA ??
I have used Avene products but cannot use even those if they have sp protection in them. A skin specialist said they can cause a reaction if high content is used so have to wear a hat to shade my face in the sun. I have just started using olive oil to cleanse my face then wipe off with a warm flannel. This seems to ease the problems I get with using any type of facial wash. Recently my income dropped so I switched to Superdrugs Vitamen E cream for moisturising. But check labels even hypoallergenic products can have sodium lauryl sulphate in which is a big no no. Sometimes even liguid paraffin upsets my skin. It is very much trial and error, but can work out expensive trying different things.Help! Hi
I have had a similar problem and used Elemis Daily Redness Relief and found it very effective.
Also put spoons in the fridge and when my face feels hot and itchy rub the spoons over to cool down as I found a face cloth could irritate my skin sometimes.
Using very gentle cleansers is a good start -- one of the best, and most over-looked, is simple baby wash. It's inexpensive, and nothing is less irritating or more gentle. Even supposedly ';natural'; cleansers can be irritating to skin (try getting some into your eyes). If your skin is oily, you might need to buy a more thorough cleanser, but if your skin itches, then I'm guessing you have issues with dry skin. So, for home care, I would suggest the following: use baby wash for your face, follow it with some hydrocortisone cream (temporarily) for a week at most, then (if your skin is dry) replace the hydrocortisone with Cetaphil moisturizer after the week is over. However, the redness/irritation will likely eventually return. As a toner, I would recommend Neutrogena's Alcohol-Free Toner and see how that works fo you, too.
Unfortunately, there are not many effective over-the-counter options for rosacea; all of the truly effective options are prescription, but -- if you get the right ones -- they work very well. Try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and too much sun exposure as these tend to worsen rosacea flare-ups.
One of the best prescription products for acne rosacea is Finacea; it is probably the most effective treatment for rosacea. Elidel, a non-steroid prescription cream helps some patients, and it can also be used daily since it is not a steroid (unlike hydrocortisone). I do not recommend MetroGel for rosacea; it's a commonly-prescribed antibiotic gel, but recent research has confirmed that bacteria are not the correct target for rosacea.
Rosacea can be worse in the winter with those who have dry skin due to the dry air, so get to a dermatologist who can prescribe you some Finacea and Elidel -- those will provide long-term relief. There is also a prescription wash, Plexion, which is good for rosacea, as well.
Good luck!
Avoid things that cause flares such as exposure to cold, sun harsh soaps or any other triggers you can identify. Metronidazole cream is very effective but you have to use it for 2-3 weeks before you see results. For more severe cases tetracyclines are effective but may irritate your stomach. Keep at it because you don't want scarring and a W.C. Fields type nose.
go to your local salon that stocks dermalogica and ask for samples of barrier repair which you should use as your moisturiser this comes in the form of a gel it willsooth the skin and protect it from the enviromental damage also as for sheer tint redness relief this will cover up the redness with out irritating the condition. this will work really well on your skin but try the samples because most people in your situation have tried so many thinks and spent too much money so you dont believe things work so try the samples before you buy just to prove it works
